Senior Civil Engineer (Water & Drainage)

JustEng is recruiting a Senior Civil Engineer (Water & Drainage) for a well-established civil engineering design & build contractor, based from either their Norwich or Loughborough office. The business designs and delivers clean water, wastewater and drainage infrastructure end to end — feasibility, detailed design and construction under one roof — for some of the UK’s largest water companies and public-sector infrastructure clients, alongside wider highways and heavy civils work.

This is a senior design position with real breadth: you will take water and drainage schemes from concept through detailed design, see them built by the company’s own construction teams, and act as a technical reference point for less experienced engineers. It is an office-based role with discretionary flexibility, applied sensibly project by project.

The role

• Lead the civil design of water, wastewater and drainage schemes — pipelines and deep drainage, storm and foul networks, pumping stations, storage and attenuation, and associated civil structures — from feasibility through detailed design
• Carry out hydraulic and drainage design and modelling to current UK standards — Design and Construction Guidance (formerly Sewers for Adoption), the CIRIA SuDS Manual (C753), Building Regulations Part H and water-company specifications
• Produce and check drawings, specifications, calculations and design risk assessments, and discharge designer duties under CDM 2015
• Work hand in glove with in-house construction teams — buildability reviews, temporary works interfaces, site visits and design support during delivery
• Manage design packages against programme and budget, coordinating with client engineers, sub-consultants and suppliers
• Mentor and technically develop junior and intermediate engineers within the design team

About you

• Degree-qualified in Civil Engineering (BEng/MEng or equivalent); chartered or working towards CEng/IEng with the ICE is welcome but not essential
• Typically 5–10 years’ civil engineering experience with a strong water and drainage bias
• At least two years’ UK experience is essential — you will be designing to UK water-sector standards and specifications from day one
• Confident with the standard toolset — AutoCAD / Civil 3D and drainage design software such as InfoDrainage / MicroDrainage or similar
• Experience in a contracting or design & build environment is a strong advantage — you understand how designs get built
• A clear communicator, comfortable in front of clients and site teams alike
• Right to work in the UK
