£35,000 - £55,000

Location: Norwich or Loughborough (office-based)
Salary: £35,000 – £55,000 depending on experience
Type: Permanent, full time
JustEng is recruiting a Civil 3D Technician for a well-established civil engineering design & build contractor, working from either their Norwich or Loughborough office. The business designs and builds infrastructure end to end — feasibility, detailed design and construction under one roof — for major UK water companies and public-sector infrastructure clients, alongside highways and heavy civils work.
This is proper civils modelling: surfaces and existing ground, alignments and profiles, earthworks and cut/fill, drainage networks, site roads and hardstandings, and the setting-out information the site teams work from. You will sit with the civil engineers, own the Civil 3D model on live schemes, and see what you produce built by colleagues rather than handed to a third party. It is an office-based role with discretionary flexibility, applied sensibly project by project.
The role
- Build and maintain Civil 3D models — existing ground surfaces from survey data, horizontal alignments, vertical profiles, corridors and finished-level design surfaces
- Design and model earthworks: cut and fill, volumes, regrading, platforms and site levels, and produce the supporting drawings and schedules
- Model gravity and pressurised drainage networks — pipe runs, levels, cover and invert information — and produce the associated long sections
- Produce coordinated GA drawings, sections, details and setting-out information to the practice’s drawing standards
- Turn topographic and utility survey data into usable models, and prepare setting-out data for site teams and machine control where required
- Coordinate the civil model against structural, mechanical and electrical models — clash detection in Navisworks and resolution with the wider design team
- Work to BIM Level 2 / ISO 19650 information-management principles, keeping models, styles and templates consistent and current
- Issue drawings accurately and on programme across several live projects, and support site with revisions, queries and as-built information
About you
- A civils technician who can take a scheme from survey data and engineer’s mark-up through to an issued drawing package with limited hand-holding
- Strong AutoCAD Civil 3D skills — surfaces, alignments, profiles, corridors, pipe networks and volume reporting should be familiar territory
- Comfortable working to UK standards, specifications and drawing conventions — you will be producing UK construction information from day one
- Confident interpreting topographic and utility survey data, and producing setting-out information site teams can actually use
- AutoCAD alongside Civil 3D; Navisworks and BIM Level 2 / ISO 19650 ways of working welcome; drainage design software exposure (InfoDrainage / MicroDrainage or similar) is a bonus
- Experience gained with a contractor, design & build business or civils consultancy — water, highways or infrastructure exposure is a real advantage
- Organised and dependable on deadlines across concurrent projects, and comfortable asking engineers the right questions
- Right to work in the UK
The salary band is deliberately wide — the seat is shaped around what you can actually do, so both established technicians and those ready to step up are worth a conversation.
Software
AutoCAD Civil 3D day to day for surfaces, alignments, corridors and pipe networks, with AutoCAD for 2D output and legacy information, Navisworks for coordination and clash detection, and the wider Autodesk and Microsoft Office toolsets.
What’s on offer
- £35,000 – £55,000 depending on experience
- 25 days’ holiday, rising to 30 days with length of service
- 4% pension contribution
- Private healthcare
- Discretionary bonus
- Office-based in Norwich or Loughborough, with discretionary flexibility dependent on the project
- A design & build environment where your models are built by colleagues, not filed away
